Prachuap Khiri Khan Province Guide: History, Towns and Local Products
Prachuap Khiri Khan is where Thailand is at its narrowest: in places, only about a dozen kilometres separate the Gulf of Thailand from the border with Myanmar. Into that strip fit the royal resort of Hua Hin, the limestone peaks of Khao Sam Roi Yot and a string of quiet fishing bays.
This guide explains why kings kept returning to this coast, looks at its eight districts and lists the pineapples, coconuts and seafood the province sells. If you run a small business here, you will see how to put your products in front of new buyers.

Why Prachuap Khiri Khan became a royal coast
In August 1868 King Mongkut travelled to Wakor, south of Prachuap town, to observe a total solar eclipse he had predicted himself. The event is remembered as the start of modern science in Thailand, and 18 August is now National Science Day.
The railway reached Hua Hin in 1911 and turned a fishing village into the country's first beach resort. King Prajadhipok built Klai Kangwon Palace there in the late 1920s, and the royal family has spent time there ever since. Further south, Ao Manao recalls 8 December 1941, when Thai airmen fought the Japanese landing on the beach.
