Buriram Province Guide: History, Towns and Local Products
Buriram has two reputations that rarely meet. For history lovers it is the home of Phanom Rung, a Khmer sanctuary built on the rim of an extinct volcano. For sports fans it is the town of Buriram United and the Chang International Circuit, where MotoGP has raced since 2018.
This guide looks at its Khmer past, the districts that hold its temples and stadiums, the festivals that bring crowds to both, and the silk and crafts its villages make.

Why Buriram mixes ancient temples and modern sport
Buriram lies at the southern end of the Khorat Plateau, among several extinct volcanoes. On one of them, in the 11th century, a local ruler built Phanom Rung, a sandstone sanctuary whose inscription records his allegiance to the Khmer king. A few kilometres away stands another Khmer temple, Prasat Mueang Tam.
Since the 2010s the province has built a new identity around sport. Chang Arena is the largest club-owned football stadium in Thailand, home of Buriram United, and the Chang International Circuit is an FIA Grade 1 track that has hosted the Thai MotoGP since 2018. The provincial motto sums it up: sandstone sanctuaries, volcanoes, silk and sport.

What Buriram makes: local products and OTOP
Thailand's OTOP programme, One Tambon One Product, pins each product to its home sub-district, and Buriram's motto names its silk. Villages such as those of Na Pho weave silk and cotton by hand, with patterns shared with neighbouring Khmer-speaking communities.
The province's farms grow rice across the plateau, and Isan preserves such as fermented fish are made in the villages.
As Buriram producers join SnapSellGo, their products show up in the carousel above. There is no commission to pay, just an annual fee for the shop.
