Why Chanthaburi is Thailand's fruit and gem capital
In 2000, Chanthaburi produced almost 380,000 tonnes of durian, about 46% of Thailand's total, along with mangosteen, rambutan and longkong. Its provincial slogan still celebrates waterfalls, fruit and jewels.
History runs deep here too. Sanskrit inscriptions from the 7th century already mention Candhrapura, and after the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767 King Taksin gathered his forces in Chanthaburi before retaking the kingdom. From 1893 to 1905 the town was occupied by France.

Made in Chanthaburi: OTOP and local specialities
OTOP ties each product to the sub-district that makes it, and in Chanthaburi that means fruit first. Durian, mangosteen and rambutan are sold fresh in season and turned into chips, pastes and preserves the rest of the year.
The gem trade adds a second speciality: stone cutting and jewellery-making, with sapphires and rubies traded in the city's gem quarter.
As Chanthaburi producers join SnapSellGo, their products show up in the carousel above. There is no commission to pay, just an annual fee for the shop.
